Here's how it all happened

First of all, I would like to emphasise that this is a true account of our adventures with the fairies of Aberfoyle, Scotland. Our contact with the fairies remains ongoing and, up until the global lockdown, we were still in touch with the most famous of all of the fairies we'd met on Doon Hill; a goblin of real character who has become a real friend to us all. He is very comical, and has had us all in fits of laughter with his childish antics over the years.

Since it all began in 2009, there have always been three of us involved with the fairies of Aberfoyle, and, over the span of approximately ten years, we have compiled our adventures into three books; each book dealing with different aspects of the fairy kingdom there. Our initial adventure back then was a tale so exciting and mysterious that I would forgive any reader who questions its authenticity, but I swear most solemnly that it happened word-for-word.

‘Lucy’(pseudonym); one of the original members of ‘The Treeheads’, as we became collectively known, was actually the person responsible for introducing us all to Aberfoyle in the first place, and subsequently to the famous fairy legend associated with that magical place: This legend is known to date back to the late 17th century, when an inquisitive church minister by the name of Robert Kirk reputedly made daily journeys up to the summit of Doon Hill, where he would sit under his favourite tree, munching on an apple while studying his precious Bible. Robert Kirk was born in 1644, the son of James and Mary, in the parish of Aberfoyle in Perthshire (He was their ‘seventh son’ and this supposedly endowed him with the gift of ‘second-sight’).

During his childhood, Robert would supposedly wile-away many hours playing around the famous ‘Doon Hill’ in Aberfoyle, and on one such occasion he claimed to have seen one of these elusive fairies, but it would be in Robert’s adult years that these ethereal creatures would feature more prominently in his life: Robert was now a young man, and on one moonlit evening in May he happened to be taking a jaunt up ‘Doon Hill’, when he supposedly heard unusual music issuing from somewhere in the distance, but was unable to identify where it was coming from.

As he continued onwards and upwards, he spied an opening in the side of the hill where an extremely bright light was emanating. The strange music was louder now, and seemed to be coming from that very opening. He ventured inside and supposedly found himself in an underground cavern so vast, it could have easily contained the whole village of Aberfoyle and much more!

He pressed-on with his fateful but exciting journey, exploring deeper into that mysterious underground cavern: Robert had now made a decision which would plunge him into the fairy realms, and which would ultimately cost him his life, imprisoning his ghost in a parallel world that lies hidden from our view, but which undoubtedly exists beyond the grasp of our earthly senses.

Robert’s dead body was reputedly found lying on top of Doon Hill in Aberfoyle on the 21st June 1692, and the famous and eerie tale of his entrapment by the fairies of Aberfoyle was born….

Lucy was convinced that the story of Robert Kirk was true, and that the fairies of Aberfoyle actually existed.

I had an open-mind, and was prepared to give anyone the benefit of the doubt: Over many years I had read lots of fascinating books concerning people who have claimed to have met all kinds of strange and wonderful beings; beings that have so far been ignored by most of our mainstream scientists and historians.

Call it synchronicity if you will but, during my own travels into the hidden realms of the supernatural, I met a very gifted ‘sensitive’. I’ve now known this person for several years and I’m utterly convinced that she can see phenomena that the vast majority of us can’t: Over the years we’ve spent many hours in cafes and restaurants, talking about the unknown, the unseen, and the undiscovered. I have literally sat with my jaw wide-open; listening spellbound, as she expounded her fascinating stories concerning the strange phenomena she claimed to have experienced during her lifetime. All I could do was to draw-on my own knowledge of the subject from many years of research, assuring her that she was completely sane, and that her recollections were not the conjured-up images of an unbalanced mind.

Meanwhile, Lucy was eager to find-out more about my extremely gifted friend and, one sunny day back in 2009, she agreed to meet her up to Aberfoyle...

That was the birth of ‘The Treeheads’; three inquisitive individuals, all fascinated by the hidden world around us, and all of us eager to explore that sacred place where the legendary Robert Kirk lived-out his extraordinary life.

That was the birth of ‘The Treeheads’; three inquisitive individuals, all fascinated by the hidden world around us...

What we didn’t realise at the time was that we were about to have the adventure of a lifetime; rediscovering a part of Aberfoyle that had remained ‘sleeping’ for hundreds of years, ‘sleeping’ since those early days when a youthful Robert Kirk would wander-up ‘Doon Hill’ to speak with the elves, in that brightly lit cavern which stretched-out for vast distances underneath Aberfoyle; a picturesque wee village nestling in the lush green hills of the Trossachs….

Adrian Bain, author

My name is Adrian Bain and I have been a self published author for many years now.

It all happened back in 2009 when I visited Aberfoyle, Scotland, to investigate a very famous fairy legend, concernging a 17th century cleric by the name of Robert Kirk, and his alleged contact with fairies.

Consequently I ended up embarking on an adventure which would last approximately three years, and culminate in the writing of 3 books about my experiences.
